who we are:The Housing Group brings together community members focused on one primary goal: Ensure the availability of housing for all residents of Londonderry. what we do:Aligned with the Town of Londonderry’s Town Plan, our group is tasked with exploring ways to enhance Londonderry’s livability by facilitating the creation, rehabilitation, retention and reuse of a diversity of housing opportunities for all, while preserving Londonderry’s rural character.
our goals for this year:1. Collect information on the housing situation today, review work conducted to date, and understand the most pressing needs. 2. Identify and learn from similar community experts who have successfully tackled housing matters. 3. Understand options and resources that might be available and develop action plans (near, medium, and long term) that can address the identified needs. |
what's happening?Housing Needs Assessment Study The Housing Group has conducted research on housing initiatives conducted to date, current and potential housing inventory, and assessing community needs. In October 2022, the Londonderry Select Board formed the Housing Needs Assessment Committee to understand better the housing needs in the Town of Londonderry and the mountain town region. Members of the Housing Group, the Londonderry Planning Commission, and the Select Board have been appointed to this committee. A housing needs assessment study is underway and a final report which will include strategies and objectives is anticipated in Spring 2023. The Housing Needs Assessment Committee meets monthly, and meetings are open to the public. Meeting agendas and minutes can be found here. Bob Perry Lane Project Several members of the One Londonderry Housing Group volunteer their time on the Bob Perry Lane Project, a single family home currently under construction in Londonderry. This project is being undertaken by the Mountain Towns Housing Project, a non-profit housing initiative focused on providing affordable housing options one home at a time. Updates on the Bob Perry Lane project can be found here. Ongoing With the assistance of the Vermont Council of Rural Development (VCRD), the Windham Windsor Housing Trust and the Brattleboro Development Credit Corporation (BDCC), the Housing Group continues to review case studies of towns similar to Londonderry that have successfully addressed housing issues. Group members also stay active in local and State initiatives that focus on housing. Together with the Housing Needs Assessment Study findings, which will be specific to Londonderry, and best practices from other towns, the group will continue to refine its action plan.
